The Osaka curry restaurant named iloilo is the moral equivalent of Plastic Mantra: a place that playfully takes what it does seriously, or engages in serious play. Plastic Mantra has served as something of the Goofy Spirit Animal for iloilo since we played for the shop's April 1st, first anniversary several years ago at its original location on the corner of Hommachi-dori and Machiyamachi-suji (The Toy Street) in the heart of Osaka City.
Over the years, Plastic Mantra has played at many of iloilo's events and we have always loved playing for the people that are attracted by iloilo's quirky vibe and wonderful curry.
Well, on June 27th, iloilo ended again. It is moving from its 2nd location, in Nakatsu, Osaka--a shop that it set up about one year ago--to someplace that remains a secret but is within Osaka City.
On June 27th, Plastic Mantra played two improvised sets for iloilo's closing event. These are those two sets.
Thank you to everybody who came out to watch and listen and laugh in masks. Thank you to you if you listen to these recorded sounds and imagine something silly taking place inside your head.
