about

This recording was inspired by the cover photograph of the moon, taken by Richard Farmer via his telescope on his balcony in Osaka, Japan.

In particular, I like how detailed and unround the moon appears in this image. It is the moon like I have never seen it before. It is scarred and awkwardly floating out there in orbit with us. And which of us here isn't also scarred and awkwardly floating around us?

I played the drum track first, and then listened to it a couple times to get a sense for its different energies. I took some notes and made some plans about what and how to play when. The hose comes in first, and then the tenor sax starts after a clear shift in the drum flow.

It is all improvised, but with some planning. Each layer was done in one take.

I hope you enjoy the image and the sounds.
