The cover image sparked this project for me. I saw the photo by Teru Koike and felt an urge to record music for it. At first, I thought I'd take my regular improvised layered solos approach and do the album myself. I asked Teru if I could use his image and he agreed. Then, since Teru is also an improviser, it dawned on me to collaborate with him. He agreed to that too. We set July 3rd as a date for him to come over to MIIT House and record.
On the morning of July 3rd, before Teru arrived, I recorded two drum layers (track 01 and 02) for us to improvise over in duo mode. Then, as everything was going so smoothly after finishing track 01 and 02, I asked Teru to record poetry/voice while I recorded a new drum layer (track 03). Then, with those two layers synced to each other, Teru and I listened and improvised on sax and hose over the voice & drums.
As you'll hear, the drums layer is audibly centered, while Teru and my improvisations are separated left and right. Teru is on the left and I'm on the right.
Teru is playing tenor sax (a Buescher "400") and I'm playing tenor sax (a Yanagisawa T902).
